About Umm Al-Qura University

Located in the holy city of Makkah, Umm Al-Qura University enjoys a unique geographical and academic position in the Muslim world. In addition to serving the needs of the kingdom through its various colleges and internationally recognized academia, UQU is privileged to serve the world through its Institute of the Arabic language. The university therefore greatly contributes to the enrichment of human knowledge.
With the Royal Decree also came the opening of another college of education in Taif as a branch of Umm Al-Qura University in that city, which later on was split into the colleges of Education and Science. Starting with the 2003/2004 academic year this branch was upgraded to Taif University. With the growth of the university population, new premises were built.
In total, the university now includes seventeen colleges, twelve institutes and centers with seventy academic departments most of which offer both graduate and undergraduate programs for both male and female students. In addition, the university contains twelve auxiliary deanships each of which has its counterpart in the girls section. Over 30000 students are enrolled in different colleges and institutions of the university, and nearly 1500 faculty members are in charge therein.
The various colleges and departments of the university have gone through different developmental stages to cope with new applied, technical, technological and academic trends. The goal is to produce qualified people who will be capable of participating in the development of the country. Students have the option to register for a specialized program only, or the program with educational training to qualify for teaching. The educational training program is offered by the College of Education. Applicants for this program would be required to pass a qualifying test.
